SUNDAY BALLEW

I am a visual artist, educator and event curator whose work often begins with the simplicity of a place. With professional experience ranging from chairing a fire-side art conference, creating impact productions and live events, guiding Alaskan and Yukon adventures, to being an art lecturer, my aim is to facilitate the broadening of perspectives (and the sparking of dialogue) through experiences that merge community, art and creative advocacy.

In my art I capture aspects and dimensions of place, working across collected materials (photography, video, stories and archival materials) to discover points of resonance, form and meaning, ultimately creating open narratives that are more subjective than objective, and more expressive than documentarian.

I am currently working on a documentary that intertwines familial and Los Angeles history and stories, and overarching questions and ideas about experience, memory and perception in the City of Dreams.
